Capacity: 6
Group: Crafts
Location: School of Stuff
Price: 475.00 GBP

Learn one of the key techniques of traditional upholstery, the stitched edge, with one of the best exponents of the craft, Amanda Girling-Budd.  Amanda will share a wealth of skill and knowledge of historical craft techniques in this five day course. You will need to bring an antique stool or dining chair as your project and you will strip and rebuild the seat using traditional materials such as horsehair and canvas. You will learn a traditional stitching technique that has been used for two hundred years, to create shapely firm edges on upholstered chairs. In years to come you might want to change the top cover that you put on your chair now, but the structure that you will build underneath will last for generations. This is slow upholstery, made to last, and a perfect antidote to our throwaway culture.

The class size is restricted to six, so you will get plenty of individual attention. The session runs for five continuous days, Monday to Friday, from 10.00am to 4.00pm each day.
